A 20-year-old man reported missing at Yosemite National Park was found Monday morning, authorities said.
Michael Dahl, a student at the University of California at Santa Barbara, last had been seen near the Lower Yosemite Fall footbridge on Saturday morning, according to a post on the park’s Facebook page. Friends discovered he was missing after a planned day hike, according to a news release from the National Park Service.
According to park spokeswoman Kari Cobb, visitors to the park found Dahl this morning near the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail.
“The visitors recognized him from the missing persons flyer (posted around the park),” Cobb said.
Dahl was found roughly a quarter mile east of the Lower Yosemite Fall trail, in a large boulder field below Sunnyside Bench. He suffered multiple injuries and was being transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance.
Dahl and his friends walked along the paved path to Lower Yosemite about 10 a.m., rangers said. “The group began ‘scrambling’ on the rocky area just below the Lower Fall, when they noticed Dahl was missing,” the news release said. “After searching for Dahl for approximately two hours, they reported him missing to Yosemite Valley Rangers.”
According to the Park Service, roughly 50 people were involved in the search effort. Dog teams and a helicopter were also used in the search. The park received assistance from Madera County, Mariposa County, Tuolumne County, and Marin County Search and Rescue, and the California Highway Patrol out of Auburn.
