Backpacking Buddy

A forum to initiate member meet-up. Looking for a hiking/climbing/fishing/skiing/etc. partner, or are you planning a trip where you wouldn't mind having some company? Last minute invites can be just as fun as a well-planned group trip (sometimes even better) so don't be shy! And be sure to post a trip report to the appropriate forum when you get back.

Backpacking Buddy

Post by srfct »

I'm wondering if there is a place (website?)to meet someone to backpack with. I have a couple of friends who I have planned trips with the last couple of years only to have them flake at the last minute. I'm not real experienced and don't really want to hike alone. Live in Southern California and looking to hike in the Hoover Wilderness areas. Like trout fishing so I like hikes that go by lakes. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Right here is your best bet! Lots of people to form a trip with. Just read the posts; many of them offer an open invitation to join on a trip. Additionally, you might consider organizing your own trip and posting here with an invitation for others to join you. :)

To meet other backpackers, you can try http://www.thebackpacker.com and go to Trail Talk. You can also go the group route and try the Outdoors Club. It's in southern California and has lots of events. http://www.outdoorsclub.org Then, there's the Sierra Club. Another group I've heard about is the Kern River Valley Hiking Club. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kernriver ... ikingclub/ You can also join other online groups similar to High Sierra Topix like Sequoia Kings Canyon Hikers. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sequoiakingscanyonhikers/
Good luck!

gee, I could have sworn I posted to this thread previously as I am a solo backpacker, fish in the backcountry and the Hoover Wilderness is nearly in my backyard but I guess someone somehow saw fit to delete my message although I don't know how or why

This is what happens when people post duplicate threads. And that's why they're not permitted, and why I usually delete one of the duplicates right away to avoid confusion. However, I must have missed this one. Since people have already replied to both, I'm just going to lock this one.

Here's the duplicate thread you responded to, huts. Nobody deleted your post:
