Hi Everyone,
Hiking the Illiloutte Creek trail to Red Peak Pass end of this month; from Glacier Point. I hiked down from RP Pass three years ago in late August and found very little water; mostly moss covered puddles in the creek until I reached the Clark Fork. Any one been up there lately? What can I expect? I was thinking of hiking from GP to the Clark Fork the first night because of the water problems. I am taking 5 other people so I want to make sure they don't have to pack too much water.

I am thinking of having everyone bring a 32 oz. platypus just in case there is very little water. Has any one been up there lately?

Haven't been there this year, but there is usually some water in illilouette right where you cross it. And then it's pretty dry until you get to Clark Fork.

Lovely trip--have fun!

I have done that drainage three times, in September (!), in the last 6 years, and there has always been water in the creek, even in a very dry year. Still the platypus is a good idea in any case due to the stretches of dry. Like from Illoutte Creek and the Clark Fork, or from the Lower Merced Lake to below Lower Ottoway Lake. If you are aiming for the upper Triple Peak Fork, it gets really dry up there and you need a good filter for what water there is there. But if you are going this month, it should not be a problem. This is a very good hike. Have fun.
