water at Franklin Gap trail junction?

Post by jwheeljr »

Hi, I'm looking at a short trip out of Mineral King to Farewell Gap. How hard is it to access the creek at the trail junction to Franklin Lakes? Are there decent camp sites near the trail junction? Thanks--

There is no water at that junction. The intermittent streams along that trail are All dry.

There is a campsite below the trail on the way to the junction, but no water there either. Debatable whether that is a legal site. There is a two mile rule and that is pretty close to the trailhead.

The last water source is the creek flowing out of monarch lakes basin.

This photo is taken just above that junction. You can see the other trail taking off from it to the left. I think water access to the main creek might be a bit difficult there. Like most things i'm sure not impossible but more work then I like.
