Skeeters have been pepped up slightly by the recent rains (2 weeks of regular thunderstorms through the middle of this last week). We had a few around every evening this week (8/19-8/24) between Onion Valley and Whitney (campsites ranged from 10600ft-11600ft), say 1 on the scale of 0 to 5. However, we didn't get the Deet out at all and only had one or two bites. I'd say its now more typical of late August in a normal year than an extremely dry year, but its still a lot better than Labor Day weekend last year. Certainly nothing to be concerned about.

Didn't see any over labor day weekend in the western Emigrant Wilderness, Chewing Gum Lake, Y-Meadow, etc.

The year is long over for them. It's only left to every once in awhile you see one land on you and you wonder where the hell it came from.
