Pine Creek Pass 8/1-3

Post by looks easy from here »

1.5-Lightly present at dusk and dawn, and would bite you if you gave them a chance, but easily shooed away, absent during the day.

8/1-7 Rush Creek TH > North Glacier Pass > Vernon Pass > Sluggo Pass > Merced River > Happy Isles TH

0 until the forested area below thousand island, it and the lake itself were a 1. No more mosquitos until Echo Valley. A handful between there and Nevada Falls in an evening and the next morning, so a sparse 1 to 1.5 I suppose.

They're on the way out... now if smoke remains co-operative it'll be a nice August!

A surprising and much appreciated Zero (0) all the way, everywhere we were, except for the night spent high in Goddard Creek basin at Lake 10,232.
That evening was only a mildly annoying level 1.

@erutan How was the smoke at Thousand Island Lake? Have a River Trail wilderness permit starting 8/20 and watching the smoke maps like a hawk...

There wasn't any there on the 1st, smoke has only started blowing down from the Dixie fire since the 6th.

Mammoth Lakes is hanging around 100, so it should be better up high... winds are supposed to shift it away tomorrow afternoon but obviously can shift back again.

8/9-14: Darwin Bench - Sapphire/Davis/Martha Lakes - Golden Trout Lake

Post by astrogerly »

Interestingly, skeeters present at Darwin Bench and Sapphire Lake (far side) on 8/9 and 8/10. I’d call them a 1 since not biting… just annoying hearing them buzz. Didn’t notice any around Davis or Martha, but were flies ever present in parts of Goddard Canyon. They could have been a bit more annoying than skeeters can be at times.
