Bridgeport, CA. - Beginning on Wednesday, March 18, visitors to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be able to reserve Hoover Wilderness Permits online through Recreation.gov.

“Previously, Hoover Wilderness Permits were issued by the Forest through a mail-in reservation request process,” said Jan Cutts, Bridgeport District Ranger. “With this transition to Recreation.gov, we are excited to be more consistent with our neighboring National Forest and National Park units who are working toward a centralized reservation system.”

Yesterday spoke with someone at the Bridgeport Ranger station. Their office is set up with a window to the outside for communicating with visitors. When using recreation dot gov for Toiyabe Hoover wilderness permits, it states one needs to pick up permits at the ranger station. However due to Covid, she said they actually are emailing the reserved permits that one can then print out at home, that is just like the Desolation Wilderness permit process. Thus one can get out on the trail as early as one can get to trailheads on the day of a permit. And one can indeed get a same day walk-up permit through the noted window.
