I'm not used to being in that much snow, going to be an interesting adventure.
Call to make sure the North lake road is open before you leave. Adventures are great. Be Prepared.. Both water and snow.

Thanks for that heads up. I found that north lake campground is still closed. Can't get ahold of anyone at the ranger station no matter when I call it seems. Is the trailhead accessible even if the campground is closed?
Thanks

Yes, the trailhead would still be open.. But keep calling. Maverick reported the road closed due to runoff damage. Put the number on speed dial and hit it everytime you have time. I assume you're calling the Bishop ranger station?? Phone: (760) 873-2500 or 760-873-2400.

or any of these numbers: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/inyo/abo ... st/offices

Edit: This page and the closures are important: https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/inyo/ale ... ?aid=41286

Click on the link for closures and you can see what is closed.

The road to the North lake Trial head was open on June 14th, and the TH was completely dry.

When we came back out on the 17th, the gate to the CG was open, the road was dry, and the CG was pretty full of tents. So we reckon that its been open since mid-June.

No real trouble with river crossings- a couple of easy log crossings of the creek below Loch Leven. Check our recent TR for more detail, and pics. Good luck.

The road has been closed since mid June, per the Inyo NF website, due to damage to the road. A lot of other roads have washed out since mid June as well, up and down both sides of the range. I wouldn't trust conditions reports that were a week old -- the melt is going fast, flood warnings are still in effect in places, pay attention to them.
