Half Dome Cables - Conditions

Post by davidsheridan »

Dear HST Community,

I have a Little Yosemite Valley / Half Dome permit for June 10th, 2017.

With all of the snowfall, do you think that the Half Dome Cables will be up by then?

I am climbing Half Dome with a team as part of a fundraiser to raise money for Bay Area Wilderness Training. Check out our team site here: http://www.climbingforkids.org/team-aaa

Any information on when the cables might go up?

Any backup plan ideas for our group if cables aren't up (e.g. would Cloud's Rest trail from LYV be doable?)

Thanks for your insights! - Let's Help Get Youth Outdoors!

Considering how much snow is currently on HD I don't think it's going to be a problem in a month.

Yosemite NP:
We are planning on the Half Dome cables being up May 26, 2017 through October 10, 2017, but these dates could change based on conditions.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

HD is actually not so high in elevation as all that. They generally get them up by the last weekend in May. If the weather continues to turn cold the way it's been it may delay it a couple weeks due to ice on the cable route, if there is any.
