Sierra NF Snow Survey 3/1

Post by maverick »

Sierra NF:
Bass Lake Ranger District - March 1, 2017 Snow Survey
This month’s snow survey had great numbers. We are between 150% and 200% above normal.
The deepest core average is 127 inches (10 ½ feet). At that site the 85 year average is 81 inches for march 1st.
High elevation rain has affected the snow melt and compaction. There are several very hard ice layers in the snow pack.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
