Thank you! I'm heading over the pass this weekend.

"By chance did you cross over Dancing Bear Pass on your trip? We plan on approaching from the west, up Hilgard, over Dancing Bear, and then into the Basin and out through Seven Gables." Carne delMuerto

Hey again "Deadmeat" :smirk: You know, I don't know which one "Dancing Bear Pass" is? This year, we went over White Bear Pass on the High Route.
Is "Dancing Bear" the one that goes over from above Jumble Lake? If so, is it the pass to the east or the west of peak 12,710? The first time I entered Bear Basin I went over one of those passes after crossing the main divide at Italy Pass.

I hope you have a great trip, I envy you for the views you'll have of watery lakes! I find I am missing them.

Cheers, y ¡cuidado amigo- no quieres ser tu nombre!

p.s. I'll send a couple of pics of the White Bear Pass area for you to check out:

This is the view from near the top of White Bear Pass, looking back to the NW with Mt. Hilgard looming in the right of the frame. Frozen Brown Bear Lake is in the center right.

This is looking right up at White Bear Pass- the low point dead center. Good luck.

Oops, Harlen. I think you meant to send that via PM. Thanks!

Edit: Yes, Dancing Bear is the one that comes from Jumble...basically right next to the pass you took.

Can you edit in a date on your subject line? That looks like a November trip I took in '83. Still pretty..

How was Frog Lk, and did you hike the snow up to Round Top Lk and beyond to look over into the Moke river watershed?

Very nice of you to post..

Mokelumne Wilderness 7/8

Post by bernal2raro »

Thanks to everyone for the useful conditions updates. Helping me plan for a trip in Sequoia high country on July 25.

We went on a snow training hike in the Mokelumne Wilderness on Saturday 7/8/17. Left from Carson Pass and went to the top (ish) of Round Top. There was plenty of snow, including a decent amount below treeline in the shade. But it was super soft that day and the temps were very warm -- melting fast. Winnemucca Lake was the only one with any ice that I saw. View south toward Sonora looked much snowier. Several thru hikers we spoke to had snow tools but said they had basically had a fine time.

Here are some pics to give an idea of snow cover. Hope this is helpful

PS -- my first post!
