Glen Pass 6/25/16

Post by tie »

I went over the pass twice on 6/25, morning and early afternoon, in low-tread running shoes with trekking poles. This was plenty.

Approaching the pass from the south, there are just a few small snowfields to cross. From the pass heading north, there is an initial traverse across the snow, then you can stay on rocks (mostly on the trail) for almost all of the way down. Near the bottom, there is an area where people have been sliding; it might be okay in the morning but is probably too soft with too many rocks later. I generally stayed on the rocks. At the bottom, there are a few more small snowfields easily crossed.

And there were approximately 2000 PCTers. If you're driving up from the east side, try to save room.
