SEKI Prescribed Fire

Post by maverick »

SEKI NPS:

Prescribed burning provides many benefits to the ecosystem in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. It reduces the impact of drought, creates ideal conditions for the germination of Giant Sequoia seeds, and helps protect park and community resources from the dangers of wildfire, to name a few!

Between June 10th and June 21st (exact dates to be announced), our hard-working fire crews will be performing a 759-acre prescribed burn in Redwood Canyon, which has been named the Goliath Burn after the “Fallen Goliath” log that could once be seen in the area.

The project area is surrounded by the Redwood Canyon and Hart Tree Trails. Both trails will have restricted access during ignition and throughout the burn down period. Smoke impacts can be expected in Redwood Canyon and in the area of the Kings Canyon Overlook during the day and towards the North Fork of the Kaweah River at night.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
