Hello all. I plan to be hiking to Whitney summit in mid/late September.I have read that this time frame is early for any significant or lasting snow but would like some additional observations. How long has it been since there was enough snow or ice on the upper reaches of Whitney to impact hikers in mid/late September? There are sections of that trail I would want to have added traction implements for if there were frozen snow/hard-pack/ice.

Have you asked this question on the Whitney Portal Message board? They may be able to give you more historical information.
