High Sierra Topix

I have gotten conflicting reports on this topic. On the one hand, last year got more snow in nearly all locations than this year. Both were dry years. On the other hand, last year's snow was weighted towards the beginning, while this year's snow was weighted towards the end, which makes me think that there would be more snow now in the high country this year than last year. Several reports from HST, Summitpost, desowv, and the latest by Landmark Adventures channel on Youtube seem to confirm this belief. However, when I emailed the Echo Lakes Chalet, they said there was much less snow in the high country this year than this time last year. This surprised me as the Echo Peak Snotel had a meltout date (before it got all weird and glitchy) of twelve days later. Also we got that recent snow event in mid-may which didn't happen last year (it did, but a much smaller event). However, the chalet's report could be because this year has been a hell of a lot warmer than last year. Just curious. Any reports from anywhere would help, though I'm especially curious about the southwest tahoe basin/desolation. But emigrant/yosemite/ansel adams are all good.

Have you checked out current TR's to some of the place you mentioned? There have
been some Desolation, Yosemite, Ansel Adams, and Emigrant Wilderness reports that
have shed some light on what one can be realistically expect. Most updates will come
from hikers themselves to the ranger station/wilderness office in the early season
before backcountry partrols and backcountry ranger stations open up.

Yes I have checked those out - I am more curious on how it compares to last year. Seems about the sameish? Dunno. Gonna be fun either way at Echo in a couple weeks. Thanks for the links anyway they have helped in the past.

Thanks so much. Not sure what the chalet was talking about but judging by these reports these two years don't look that different, maybe even a little more snow this year. Unless deso got skunked (reports showed a lil more in emigrant last year than this year), they might have misread my email or I didn't phrase the question well enough. Looking forward to a trip up there the 19th - 4th, will post pics when I get back if I can.
