TITLE: Gardiner Pass

GENERAL OVERVIEW: This pass leads between Charlotte Creek and the Gardiner Creek drainages.

CLASS/DIFFICULTY: Class 1-2

LOCATION: Kings Canyon National Park along the far Western ridge of Mt. Gardiner. HST Map

ELEVATION: 11,251

USGS TOPO MAP (7.5'): Mount Clarence King

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: The Southern side of this pass isn't very steep dirt slopes covered in trees. Once you have crossed the massive avalanche zone angle up into the trees aiming for the pass. Before long you will pick up the old trail that will take you to the top.

The Northern side has two general options. There is a steep narrow cut you can enter with a large metal box smashed under a rock. This leads down about 20 feet to the trail that will take you to the bottom. If you don't like this steep section hook wide to the right around large rocks and down easier slopes to the trail.
