Gemini Pass

Post by Sierra_Summits »

GENERAL OVERVIEW: This pass goes from convict basin to the fish creek drainage. It connects lake wit-so-nah-pah and Cecile lake.

CLASS/DIFFICULTY: Class 2, holds snow late into season.

LOCATION: Inyo national forest. HST Map

ELEVATION: ~12,000

USGS TOPO MAP (7.5'): "Convict Lake" and "Bloody mountain" to have both sides of the pass

ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Leave lake Mildred and head into the valley aiming for the creek that drains lake wit-so-nah-pah. Stay on the south side of that creek, away from the steeper terrain. reach the lake and go around its western shore to the climb for Gemini. I went over Gemini in early June and there was alot of snow. Definitely do this pass in the afternoon unless prepared with the right tools. Once up about 2/3rds of the way it flattens out and stay to the pass closet to red slate mt. from the top head down the loose rocky slope to the upper lake.
