found something in the organic isle at the super market:

"earnest eats granola plank"
http://www.earnesteats.com/our-foods/planks.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

not the most efficient in pack size (air bubbles), but 380 calories from a 3oz bar, and quite yummie, not much water in them. various flavors. Taking them on Whitney in a week - will report back how they perform in the field :thumbsup: :thumbsdown:

The original power bar. My favorite. Great with peanut butter.

Whatever happened to Pemican or Wilson's Meat Bars? Does anyone else remember those?

I have drifted away from "bars". I prefer a bag of nuts and dried fruit and jerky. As others have said, the bars are just to sweet for long term consumption. And those coated with chocolate (unforunately most bars) just make a huge mess.

God, yes I remember them! The first (and only) time I took a Wilson's Meat Bar along, my buddy surreptitiously got out his camera, but I saw him. "What's that about?" I asked. "Oh, I just want to see your face when you take your first bite of that bar," he said. Eeeeeeyew! He was right! :puke:

forgot to report what these things are like - well, the did taste more like "plank" than granola. The first one must have been dried out, because it was so hard and tasteless, I thought I was eating a piece of balsa wood. The others which I later consumed at home were much better, but I don't recall a sensation of "I want to eat that again"

Here you go WD: http://www.mealpack.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Usually carry either the carob or fruit, they are pretty good, but you need to drink a lot
of water with them. They are high in fiber, and will keep your regular with those 9 grams
of fiber.
The 420 calories at 3.75 oz are quite filling.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

FYI, you can make your own bars. This blog has recipes by a lady who's replicated the major bars.

I love the Kind bars but they are just tooooo spensive.

She also has Clif and Lara bar recipes. Good Stuff.
