sinking your food

I've told this story before. I once stashed a beer in a creek under the bank. When I returned the can was on the bank, empty with what looked like holes in the can from bear teeth. So my guess is if sinking food worked for you there wasn't a bear or the bear wasn't interested. Once I returned to camp after 10 pm after a day away. My wife to be left food out that I did not notice in the dark. Later I observed a bear walking by where I found the food the next am but the bear had just walked by. From these two events I learned not to trust a bear to do what you think they should.
