HST from iPhone

I was wondering I any of you read/post in HST and what app you have found to work well. It's possible of course in Safari but not optimal. And for some reason when posting there is a major lag for each keystroke.

It can be convenient at times to participate in forums without sitting at a computer, so I am curious if any of you are doing that here.

Thanks!

I sometimes use Safari to read HST, but have never posted using it. As far as I know, there is no HST app.

touchbb.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Using your iPhone, go to link above and download TouchBB from the app store.
Let me know if it works.

Loaded it on my iPhone and connected to Highsierratopix, but the "experience" was no better than Safari. Maybe I'm missing something. I'll try again tomorrow.

I'm on Android, so can't test on my end. From the screen shots, seems the experience should be nothing like what you see in Safari. Take a look at the scrolling screen shots, here:

http://www.messageforums.net/iphoneforumreader.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and static screen shots here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/touchbb- ... 58253?mt=8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Support forums for the app are located here: http://www.messageforums.net/support.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What I couldn't find is whether you use the regular URL for the forum, or, if you have to add "touchbb.php" at the end of the forum URL to access the script (see link in my last post). At the very least, I'm assuming you need to enter the exact URL for the forum (rather than the HST homepage) into the app settings.

Also a stupid question, but did you try to access the forum through the app itself, or with Safari? I believe you must access through the app in order for it to work.

There are a couple of other options out there, like TapATalk, that I can try if this doesn't work.

I should also add that TouchBB only works with iPhone. Others, like TapATalk, work cross platform.

Hi - I tried TouchBB (Lite) just now. I'll have to play with it a bit more, but at first glance, browsing the forums seems to work well. However (maybe I'm just blind) I didn't see a way to respond to a post (e.g. to post this reply from the iPhone instead of the PC browser where I am now).

Maybe I need to buy the non-free version of TouchBB to post?

Thanks for the tip & for setting this up!

*** edited after further experimentation. It seems I have the option to post a new message or reply to existing threads in certain forums (for example in Backpacking/Hiking), but not in others (for example, this one). But anyway the message browsing sure is nicer than using Safari with the constant pinching & panning. :D

Walk me through this....how did you connect to HST after opening the app ?

I read the forums on my iPad almost exclusively and have been using Safari. I'm curious as to your feedback using this app. Are you still able to view images easily? Is the UI easy to use or clunky? I'm a bit hesitant to use a free version as I'm sure it may have some cool functionality disabled.

I wish there was a Firefox app for iPad, but I think the Apple folk won't let that happen. I'm a total Apple Kool-Aid drinker (Macs are for working, PCs are for gaming) but have always been underwhelmed by Safari.

Ok, got it now ! Thanks Eric ! This link http://www.messageforums.net/support.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
helped a bunch. Here's how to do it:
1. Tap on accounts at the bottom of the screen
2. Click the + on the top right
3. Add your forum, makking sure you use the full URL (including http:// and add the touchbb.php to the end of the URL. )

I can read posts but haven't figured out how to respond yet. I'll work on that tomorrow.
