It would be nice to be able to link directly to "USA Topo" map type. Perhaps in a similar way as how Google Maps and gmap4 do it: by adding "&t=<something>" to the URL.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately not grasping what you mean. Can you provide a link or picture which demonstrates the idea?

I think this is what tomba is referring to:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5435#p37893" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's just the example; read whole thread for details.

I am referring to the ability to directly link to a specific map type by appending a parameter to the map URL.

For example, Google Maps uses t=<something> parameter. Some examples:
http://maps.google.com/?ll=37.74,-119.56&z=10&t=m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Map
http://maps.google.com/?ll=37.74,-119.56&z=10&t=p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Terrain
Http://maps.google.com/?ll=37.74,-119.56&z=10&t=k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Satellite
http://maps.google.com/?ll=37.74,-119.56&z=10&t=h" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Hybrid

Gmap4 uses similar parameter (but with difderent values):
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... 6&z=10&t=m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Map
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... 6&z=10&t=s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Satellite
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... 6&z=10&t=h" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Hybrid
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... &z=10&t=t1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - Google Topo (Terrain)
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... &z=10&t=t2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - MyTopo
http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.p ... &z=10&t=t3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - US Topo

It would be nice to be able to link directly like this to USA Topo map type on the HST High Sierra Map.
I suspect that the fact the the map reverts to a map (google terrain) view when switching between "Normal Size" and "Full Size" is related to this.

Ah, thanks for the clarifications Eric and tomba. Should be doable. Thanks for the suggestion.

I like the HST map feature. Unfortunately, it hasn't been worked into the HST homepage on books and maps (i think mytopo is featured there), or anywhere else for that matter, unless you know where the URL for it is.

Personally, it's a great piece of work and needs to be more visible on the HST site.

Thanks Russ. There are a few changes to be made to the homepage (and others), and those suggestions are on the top of the list. Unfortunately lack of time these days always seems to infringe on actually completing the work.

I've looked at the various threads and cannot see how to print a map from there. Greg, I know you're busy, but It would be nice to be able to print a map from the tool.

One can screen shot it, but a "save as" with jpeg option would be really sweet unless it violates copyright in someway.

Hey Russ, no way currently except through print screen but I can see how this would be useful. I know google maps provides a site that gives a static image, but I'll have to look at it in more detail to see if we can use it for this purpose.
