OMG! We know the same people! I was looking at Big Pine Lakes and saw Kelly & Bailey in your photos!
btw, nice reflections of Banner & Ritter. Also the flowers and bear paw!

Amazing...! Small world. I work/ed with Kelly before I changed divisions...here in OC. We did Whitney (twice) last year and I had an extra spot on the reservation up NFBP and asked if she could go...was fun. Bailey rocked - what a poser though, loves the camera.

I remember when she did Whitney with your group. She did a 4 day trip with us the weekend before.
Bailey's first Sierra hike was Bloody Mountain. He was a little guy at the time, and his little paws got cut up from the snow. We snowboarded down, but being Bailey's first time he was wimpering, and afraid to go (or maybe the paws hurt). Kelly scooted down with Bailey in her lap, then Anthony cakespread the rest of the way carrying Bailey in his arms.

After a few trips, Bailey was running down those chutes with big smile on his face! He's a pro now!

Sweet. I remember her coming off that trek and onto ours, I though she was crazy, but now, after doing several solos this summer, I would like to string a week together for some good times.
Yes, Bailey is truly a veteran now. Totally awesome trooper. Kelly is pretty good too. NFBP was the first trip as well for my wife, Kristin. Fortunately, she enjoyed her first backpacking trip. Whew. Looks good for the future.
Looking to head up to Mammoth Crest this weekend with some friends. No wife this time though. I know you guys are all praying for snow, but after this weekend, okay. Then again, snowshoeing rocks. Take care.

Kelly's first backpack was up Meysan Lakes Trail, then she did Lone Pine Peak! We had 2 extra permits and it was her birthday weekend so she wanted to try backpacking. They borrowed gear and had a great time!
Two weeks later we did another trip with us and by then had all the gear they needed.

Thats about all it ever takes, one trip on borrowed gear and the next time its titanium cups, carbon fiber canisters, and single walled bomb shelters...
I am not that light yet, but I can carry a bunch. First trip up Whitney, I carried a double nickel, way too much weight. Next time much lighter, getting lighter every day, but without new gear, just less gear. My wife was checking out Kelly's gear, until I mentioned the price...whew. I dig toys, but it seems like every pound costs $100.
Anyway, it is all fun...This weekend it is a day hike on Mammoth Crest. Have fun with the crowds at the bottom of the hill. This may be the last great winter at Mammoth with the sale and all.
Until whenever, keep going up.

I might be hiking Sunday if its too crowded. Snow is thin and I don't want to ruin my board.

Just got back from Mammoth Crest, did 7.5 round trip on the crest. Snow levels were varied between 6" - 2'...the trip was great; despite no snowshoes...
Weather was sunny, about 30 degrees on the crest and the wind was howling, but calmed after noon.
Photos to come in the near future.
