Floating Rock

Post by maverick »

While scouting for photo opportunities in Pioneer Basin noticed this rock
almost hanging on the ridge line extending north from Mt. Hopkins.
It's precarious position peaked my interest, and since the dark blue sky
really showed off the bright granite, it made for a good black & white piece.
Used a 100-400 at 400mm to isolate the subject enough to emphasis
the curvature of the ridge, and to fill up half the frame.
After waiting for about an hour at which time the top rock cast a shadow on
the rock beneath it giving the illusion of it floating in the air.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
