We (my wife, son - until he grew up - and I) have made an annual winter pilgrimage to Yosemite Valley almost every year since 1983. It's the only time I go to the Valley. On weekdays, it's possible to walk across the Valley, hike the trails and experience solitude and even silence. We try to go around the full moon. Walking around the Valley at night with the light of the moon on a fresh snowfall is truly magical. When I go out at sunrise, there's usually only a couple of people around. For some reason, even most of the photographers don't get out for that first hour of light so I get to pick my spot. Here are a couple.

These trees by Swinging Bridge are usually scrawny and barren except with a fresh snowfall:
