That's a really big lens! I think I would probably have trouble holding it steady. I'm not supposed to carry anything heavier than a Starbucks cup right now. :D

Very cool, that article led me to the world of hacking digital cameras. Didn't realize people were mounting SLR lenses on their point and shoots- very intriguing!

sure helps to have a ton of studio lighting to get a shot of a bug like the sample image shows...

There's no way you can do that in the field unless you haul a lot of extra gear. Lighting for macro is a big deal - ringflash and possibly a second slave flash is almost mandatory. Add the tripod this heavy contraption requires and your camera is the least of the weight you need to worry about.
