Off the beaten path, somewhere on Sawmill Pass in 2009 - been re-processing some old RAW files, and the cheapo D40 wasn't such a bad camera after all...

Fishmonger - I do not know if I have specifically ever said this, but I sure enjoy your photos. Keep up the great work!

I second this. The lighting in your photos is unbelievable.

thanks for the kudos - lighting is courtesy of the Range of Light, and the rest of the magic comes from watching some Photoshop tutorials on youtube :unibrow:

example here - old 2010 version I thought was pretty nice

and what I came up with today, pushing a few buttons in different directions

So what buttons did you push? :D

I'm curious where you find tutorials you like.

Look for Serge Ramelli and his CS6/Lightroom tutorials, and then dial it back a little, because he can be way over the top in his edits towards the surreal. However, his use of the highlights/shadows whites and blacks sliders to recover detail is a great starting point. Lots of good info on adjustment brushes, too. Another good source is Gavin Hoey, but he just likes to push the clarity slider to the far right :D

Something different here - freshly re-edited - Florence Lake in 2010 after dropping off a food package at the Muir Ranch in person, zoom zoom across the lake

and what came out of Photoshop CS4 back in 2010 here

Thanks Fish. I'm going to strap on the headphones and go check one of those out right now.
Sure is a massive improvement from the 2010 photo!

another pair of fresh edits - old images were muddy flat. Both from the trail starting at Fish Creek and heading up to Grassy Lake and Lake of the Lone Indian in 2010
