It's been a while since anyone has posted a pic with people (the last 7 are mine). I thought I'd remind everyone that as much as we love mountains (especially the Sierra) we are still people.

This pic might remind us of 2011. So much snow. Here's hoping for a better year in 2012.

Snow camping in Sequoia National park near Pear Lake. That's my brother Mike's 4 season North Face tent--perfect for snow camping. Vintage Kodachrome 64. March 1988.

RoguePhotonic wrote:Here is a piece from my coming report covering the bear. You could be right about it feeding on moths but the Ionian Basin was still mostly snow cover:

While eating breakfast in the hut a man outside yells bear! What did he say I asked? A bear!? Up here!? I got up quickly to see a bear running at full speed up the main drainage of the pass. It then made it's way up the Eastern Flank of Mt. Solomons and continued up the slope until it crossed the ridge running South of Solomons at about 12,400 feet and not once the whole way did it stop running! Wow I said I wish I had stamina like that! Why that bear was up there and where the hell it was headed by going into Ionian Basin is beyond me.
Interesting, maybe fleeing from something? I don't know if their are moths in the Sierra, just saw your picture and instantly thought of the bears in Yellowstone.

The actions of animals blow my mind.

There are plenty of moths but I have never seen them in any sort of great numbers before.

here's one who is hoping for some snow - Santa brought me some new touring ski boots and I am itching to get some use out of them other than resort skiing
