Message from the Mountains: a John Muir Trail documentary

Post by illyav »

I recently uploaded onto YouTube an obscure JMT documentary made by a SEKI Backcountry Ranger a few years ago. Hope ya'll enjoy!

I noticed all of the external frame and old style internal frame packs and wondered how old the footage was. Then, in the comments, you stated it was published in 2004. What I found interesting is when Bob mentioned a medivac on the poopout hill out of Tehipite. I know that trail. I also recalled a book by Amy Racina about her injury on that trail and wondered. Turns out Amy's incident happened in 2003, so I'm wondering if the medivac was her.

Interesting, I just searched her name and watched her appearance on the Montel Show (YouTube clip) talking about it. I'm sure it would be verifiable in NPS SAR archives. Yeah the documentary is dated, I've had a copy of it since 2005 but barely got around to uploading it. It's pretty cool. I like hearing what motivates people to get out there and this format, interviewing backpackers on the trail during their experience is pretty unique. I've always liked this documentary.
