Charlie's solar-powered JMT b/w & magic hr photo shoot, 2015
Posted: Tue Oct 13, 2015 7:24 pm
Finally some photos from my hike! I'll be processing these for a couple months. Happy to post more here if there is interest. Or you can follow along as the set fills in at http://www.charliewhitfield.photography/John-Muir-Trail or my new facebook page http://www.facebook.com/CharlieWhitfieldPhotography. (Facebook is working hard to make me feel like a total loser because I have only 3 "likes". Appreciate any help I can get there.) You can also find me by name at 500px and 1x.
Here are some of my favorites so far...
Day 1, on the way up to Cloud's Rest. I really wanted an escalator here:
Everyone goes wide here (for good reason) but here's a portrait:
Not magic hour. Blue hour! 8 sec exposure about half-hour before sunrise:
You know it's going to be hail when it looks like this. Was that .7 oz/sqyd cuben fiber tarp a mistake?
Banner with moon, morning after the storm:
Gladys Lake at magic hour:
And Gladys Lake again 39 minutes later:
Beautiful Marie Lake. The sun is barely up and the lake is still in blue shadow:
Two backpackers walking by Lake Marjorie:
And two not yet on my website...
I may have carried a 24oz. f/1.4 lens the whole 220 miles for this one shot. Was it worth it?
Bighorn Plateau was just astounding! Not nearly done with this area:
Please let me know if you want to see more here.
Gear
Sony a7r
Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA
Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 (arrived 2 days before my start; thanks lensrentals.com!)

Sirui T-025X CFTripod (w/out center pole)
Suntactics sCharger-5
2 spare batteries
2 USB cables (I had a cable failure in pre-JMT gear testing)
