I had intention to do a lot more astrophotography with that f/1.4 lens, in particular, to photograph the Perseids at their peak, when the moon was new during the 2nd half of my JMT. But I was doing 12 miles most days and I was just too freaking tired to stay up past 10pm or get up before 4am. Hard enough to stay up to 8:30 most nights. One night I was in my sleeping bag (cowboy style) shooting 30 sec exposures one after another after another until 2 of my batteries were drained. Darn meteors kept flying between my exposures.

Great photos! Great Milky Way shot! Definately worth the extra weight.

I am curious, why are the stars in the reflection trailing, while the stars in the sky are steady?

Because the surface of the lake was moving a little, probably wind induced..
