The weather was great, about 30 degrees on the crest, the wind was howling, but stopped after noon. Snow was between 6" - 2.5' in spots; remember we did this without snowshoes...total hiking time, about 7.5 hours over about 7.5 miles. Going up definitely took more time than coming down. It is also interesting that a very well marked, maintained and groomed trail does not look as such when covered by snow. ;)

A great day, great hike, great friends. Very prestine and beautiful.

Enjoy.

Mammoth Mountain looks bare! I haven't hiked Mammoth Crest yet. Maybe during Thanksgiving, since there's no snow in the forecast :crybaby:

This winter hiking is really putting a serious jones in the middle of my workday...now I am craving some Denalis and a Bibler to go winter camping...stupid scenery, stupid adventures, stupid good times.

Not much snow on the hill yet, but enough to make walking difficult. The neat part was the less than standard return via the direct drop in behind Crystal Lake...the map and two shots illustrate this.

Good times. Now what should I do for the next adventure...looking at booking a room/cabin at Tamarack over Jan 20-23; with wife in tow....sweet.

Thanks for the compliments. Based upon what I read from your site and posts, I bet you do. My thoughts go out to you; having been a sidelined athlete in the past, I understand. The main purpose I got into the photos and the web was so relatives who enjoyed traveling, but are no longer able to do so, could enjoy in the sights as well. Truly, it is something of which I do not take for granted.

Keep up the spirits and aim for the hill.
