You may have already considered this, but just in case. . . When I did the SHR I parked at the end and shuttled to Onion Valley. From there it's a relatively easy one day hike to Roads End (20 miles+- all downhill after Kearsarge Pass). It would have taken at least a day to shuttle all the way around and a 20 mile all trail day wasn't bad.

I have hitched in Kings Canyon National Park quite a bit. You will only need to hitch from Lodgepole to Roads End which won't be easy but it's very doable. It will likely be a 2 hitch scenario. From Lodgepole to Grant Grove and then from there it really shouldn't be too bad. Good luck.

To put it into perspective I hitched from Roads End all the way to Mineral King. Took 3 rides and 2 days. But I made it just fine.

+1 to alpinemike's comment. I have also hitched a couple times in SEKI NP, and it's been surprisingly easy. Pro Tip: make a cardboard sign and write your destination in big fat letters. I've hitched from Wolverton to Roads End, and it took two hitches totaling 4 hours. A few years ago, I hitched from Roads End to Grants Grove; that was just one hitch after waiting on the road ~30 minutes.

Hi Jawn Muir,
I plan on starting the SHR second half of Aug and I am looking for a hiking partner, see my post in sierratopix. May be there is a match, let me know if you are interested (email: hfmgohlke@gmail.com).
