Generals Highway Road Delays Start 6/14

Post by maverick »

SEKI NP:
Road Construction Delays Begin Today

Traffic delays associated with the Generals Highway Construction Project in Sequoia National Park begin today. This first phase of construction consists of an approximate 1 mile segment of the Generals Highway between Amphitheater Point Overlook and Crystal Cave Road.

Expect delays of up to an hour between 7am and 5pm Monday through Friday. No delays will occur on weekends or holidays except for 20 minute delays when the highway is closed to one lane. Traffic will pass on the hour, uphill traffic first. Downhill traffic will follow after the uphill traffic has successfully cleared the construction zone. Traffic delays are related to surveying and pre-work activities.

Major construction and implementation of the full delay schedule (excluding night work) is anticipated the first week of July. Due to the nature of construction, this date is subject to change. Please take this into consideration for travel and scheduling.

The National Park Service will be notified two weeks in advance of night work. Until then, the implementation of the night schedule is not proposed and there will be no road closures or delays at night.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.
