Transportation from Whitney Portal

Post by marcyj1 »

Hi all! We are going to be spending 7 days on the HST starting on the 19th and (fortunately) have all of the transportation figured out on how we will be getting there...planes, cab, Greyhound, Sequoia Shuttle, etc., however...we are struggling to come up with ideas on how to get back to Fresno or Visalia from Whitney Portal. We don't want to take one of the shuttles (way too expensive) and haven't really heard of many alternate options other than hitchhiking--which we are definitely not opposed to doing, just haven't really had any experience with that. Any suggestions, recommendations, or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!

EST from Whitney to Mojave: http://www.estransit.com/CMS/content/395-routes $22 Mon-Wed-Fri only
Bus from Mojave to Visilia: http://locations.greyhound.com/bus-rout ... /mojave-ca $29 or more, depends on day you travel
Sequoia Shuttle from Visilia to SEKI: http://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/p ... tation.htm $15 round trip

Total around $66, but the bus fare may be more, and the shuttle less since you are getting a one way. Hope this helps. :)

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
