high Sierra trail
Thinking about hiking the high Sierra trail in September. Is there a place to find out transportation info. Planning to drop my car @Whitney portal and hitch down to lone pine, then public transportation to the start. Thanks

Re: high Sierra trail
You might consider leaving the car at the trail head -- taking public transportation at the end would be a nice rest. At the beginning, you are carrying a big pack extra full with all the supplies for a week.
Whether you head north or south, the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority will take you to Lancaster, or north to Mammoth or Lee Vining: http://www.estransit.com/CMS/content/395-routes
YARTS runs from Mammoth and Lee Vining into Yosemite and down to Merced. Amtrak will get you from Merced to Visalia, where SEKI has a daily shuttle up to the trail head. No schedules yet, but it was just announced that there will be bus service through Fresno connecting Yosemite and SeKi.
From Lancaster, you can get Amtrak transportation through Bakersfield to Visalia.
Good luck. Planning the transportation is nearly as daunting as putting together everything else for the trip.
