Who bought what?

Postby markskor » Sat Mar 09, 2013 11:16 am

Equipment/gear-check time -
At the end of last season, I assessed all my gear, had a little backpack stitching done, replaced a tent zipper, and thankfully concluded that I really needed nothing this season – I had it all.
However…So far I am waiting on a raft, a new ¼ zip fleece, some Crocs, new socks, and today an order to Wyld Edge – lures.
Still to buy – boots, maybe a paddle, 3 re-spools …argh!

Who else has ordered, is planning, or has received some new, really cool stuff?

(BTW, anybody have a good light waterproof hooded shell – XL?)

Hmmmm. Well I bought a new:

ULA Catalyst backpack
Katadyn Hiker filter
Therm-A-Rest Prolite
Vibram Fivefinger Seeya shoes
2 pairs of Railrider Eco mesh pants
3 pairs of Merrell Courant Solid socks
2 Marmot lightweight crew LS shirts
1 Marmot Stride LS
2 underarmor Oseries 3 inch underwear
gear repair kit
first aid kit
Westeern Mountaineering Flight Jacket
got Zpacks cuben fiber sacks for my wallet, flight jacket and cooking pot.
MSR Alpine Cork Trekking Poles
New tent stakes
got more SD cards
1 new camera battery
a wall charger for my Sanyo Eneloop batteries

I think that covers what I have bought for this year. Last year I replaced almost every piece of gear I had.

I still need to buy a new pair of Zamberlan Vioz GT boots. Depending on how my cash outlook is I might just buy a whole new Zpacks Hexamid Solo Plus.

hmm, not sure I really want to account for everything I bought over the last few months.

In the hiking gear area, I recall these additions over the last couple of months:

Exped UL 7 down insulated ground pad - was fine in October, going into the Sierra in April
Marmot Couloir 0F down bag (steepandcheap... fills the hole between my -20 and +25F bags)
Stoic Merino 200 longjohns (LOVE them, but I guess I live in a cold place :D )

Long sleeve base layer shirts in neon colors
Magellan Explorist 610..hate it. Has a software bug that doesn't track or accumulate mileage in the suspend mode

On the want list
A sub 3lb tent I have been looking at Big Agnes, Mountain Hardware, Sierra Design, but still undecided on which tent to pick.(Any other sugestions would be welcomed)
Merino Wool Base layers tops and bottom
Thinny thin running sock and warm wool sleeping socks
Maybe a nice light headlamp (any suggestions are welcomed)

Me too. For me, a bit embarrassed by my compulsion to buy gear that I don't use as much as it should be. My wife jokes that I should run a gear rental business. Funny. But only sort of.. :(

EDIT: FWIW, my greatest purchases this year were a new Osprey backpack, some down gear, and a TON of stuff from the various freeze dried and packet vendors to work out some good recopies.
But large REI dividend to come...yes!
