My First Tent

Thirteen years ago I bought my first tent, one I could finally call my very own. After moving around constantly as a child, possessing my own home I could take with me wherever I went was surprisingly powerful. In my blog this week I write about that incredible experience. Please enjoy it!

Very nice blog, Ted.
Brought back memories of my first test, a North Face Sierra tent that accompanied me on my fist backpacking trips, including my JMT through hike.

Nice story - nicely told.
Also brought back memories of my various tent progressions over the last 50 backpacking years.
20 years ago, recall purchasing a North Face Pebble...great tent...(still have it too).
At 4 1/2 pounds for a two-person, (thankfully not your eight lbs though), it was considered state of the art way back then too.
thanks!

Kudos to you Ted.

Seems like that tent has lived a good life. ;)

Really nice story. My own first tent didn't last nearly so long. It was a bright orange plastic tube tent that served for a couple of trips....but eventually got tossed out after a few holes made it less than waterproof.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the read.

It's amazing the memories our gear accumulates, especially something we live in on some of our best days.

Same here. Seemed like a great idea at the time.

Mine lasted 1/2 of a trip...it died a horrible death in a hail storm...I thought I was going to also.
