new jacket

Post by markskor »

Quick shout out - gear sale.
My WM flight vest lost a zipper. Instead of replacing, just ordered a "My Trails" 800 goose down, "ultra -light" jacket on their clearance sale. FYI, "My Trails" is the same manufacturer as/ the successor to GoLite.

Just arrived and stoked...retail price tag said $229...on sale now $99 (but with the 10% first purchase discount - was $89 and free shipping too.) Not intended as a winter jacket but - looks perfect for 3-season Sierra backpack layering.
Sizes run small though, sales lady suggested getting 1 size larger...she was right.

1. What size are your jackets normally? What size did you order?
2. How much does it weigh? Some manufacturers list one weight, but when it arrives it is heavier.

There are some other vendors who produce one that is lighter in weight, but at a heavier price.

I normally wear XL (6', 225 lbs, long waisted)...ordered (as it says "trim fit") XXL...sales rep said sizes tend to run small, and wanted one a bit roomier for layering over a 1/4-zip fleece layer.
Site says 12 oz....no scale here but could even be lighter...packs small and surprisingly warm.
Pleased - would order it again...highly recommended for 3 season Sierra wear!

Don't give up on the WM vest. Maybe they will fix it for no charge? Always nice to have a quiver of down to match the conditions.
