High Sierra Topix

So, looking at a new headlamp, would like one that tilts, with durable/comfortable straps. Been using a couple cheap models, and realize the tilt function would be helpful. Light weight is always a plus. $50 or less is probably my budget.

I've brought along my little 9V Pak Lite too. It's nice, but having a headlamp is useful at times.

I've been using the BlackDiamond Spot and I'm loving it. It has a high beam and 2 smaller flood lights all dimmable. It also has 2 red LEDs also dimmable that's great inside the tent. Battery indicator's helpful when you're deciding whether or not to replace batteries. This has 4 tilt placements and a single strap that goes around your head, nothing on top.

I was in your position when I bought it but didn't want to do the research, so I just went to REI. Their prices may be a little high, but I knew that whatever I got would do what I wanted it to do.

Petzl tikka plus. I use it for backpacking, duck hunting, and power failures . Has the red shift, tilts, and I should probably change the batteries now after two years. totally reliable.... I've been using it for 7 years?

Last week in the duck blind, before shoot time, friend said turn it down. So I just tilted it down.

There is a new version of the BD Spot that is smaller, brighter, and waterproof.

How weird is this? A fellow teacher just happened to stop by today, while I was perusing headlamps (prep period, of course). He gets all lit up to see I'm looking at headlamps. I guess he's big on headlamps, who knew?

His recommendation: The BD Spot. I guess there is a new one, with 200 lumens for 2016. Still the Tikka is highly rated. Hopefully, my local REI here in Encinitas has both.

Can you replace the headstrap as it wears out?

On my Spot I can. The band threads through an H-shaped bracket so you don't even have to undo the whole band, just slide it through the slot in the H.

Another vote for the Black Diamond Spot. I have the 2016 version. Some great features and it's reasonable at $40. FYI, it's an REI exclusive product though.
