High Sierra Topix

I'm looking for a knife that will be sort of an all around knife. Can skin animals/fish, can fight off an animal/person if it came down to it, cut things up like branches and what not. I came across this KA-BAR Fighting/Utility Serrated Edge Knife that is within my price range and was wondering if anyone had any input they could provide, or if they knew anything about the company?

From what I've read it sounds like it's a good knife, they've been in the business for awhile (WWII) and have always been pure quality.

Would this be the route to go? Something else?

Ka-bars are heavy, over-stated for the backcountry, and i think just a bit too much.

That's assuming you are looking for fixed blade...

Really just looking for a good knife. I don't care what kind it is. Unless one has a major advantage over the other.

I have a Ka Bar half serrated blade. Split wood,(pound it with another chunk of wood) heavy enough to use it as a hatchet. I only use it car camping as it way to heavy for bp'n. Made in Olean NY as they always have. Very good quality. I have a small Spyderco hawkbill combo blade for bp'n.

I did like the looks of the Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Fine Edge in person, but I always thought it was just an overpriced knife because of Bear Grylls.

I noticed someone in the comments said the person has sold out to advertisers, but obviously don't know if that's true or not. Is that a legitimate knife after all?

anyway:
came with 3 blades that are interchangeable into the main body.

My other main knife is a Vitornoux (sp?):

One is good for hunting and I like the blade interchange. The other is ok for a trout fest unless Mark uses it against granite. Hence, I carry a sharpener. his 2" blade sucks.
