High Sierra Topix

Climbing trip consideration: Setting up base camp in the Wright Lakes basin to facilitate ascents of Tyndall and Barnard, and maybe Trojan.

Does anyone here have info on the route up Tyndall's southwest slope? Secor calls it "a simple talus hop" from Wright Lakes, rated class 2, but I haven't been able to find more details.

This is looking down from the summit ridge. I didn't climb that way, but it looked pretty simple.

Here's a link to the album, which doesn't show much of the area in question, but you can easily see that southwest slope is less steep than the north rib or west slope.

Thanks maverick for the link. I read what Wandering Daisy had to say about the south slope - she seemed to find it pretty tedious and she was going down. I think with enough persistence it can be climbed up from Wright Lakes. I will post a TR if the trip happens.

Went to climb Versteeg from that side once. What a pile of crap. Hopefully the talus slope leading to the summit of Tyndall is more stable. It is a very beautiful drainage and really not so out of the way to get to compared to the other side of Tyndall. Coming over Shepherd Pass you can save some walking by wandering over a low point between Tyndall and Tawny Point.

Longri, you wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the Tyndall talus slope taken on the Versteeg trip, would you?

Anyways, the slope we went up looked okay from a distance but ended up really nasty, dangerous actually, by the time we reached the col. Maybe that slope on Tyndall, although rated the same, is better. Let us know!

It is a very nice area. We visited mostly just to be there, not so much to climb.
