Find Your Limits, and Destroy Them: Whitney's East Buttress

Post by MooseTracks »

I lowered myself slowly onto the rock at the head of my gear, grunting as exhausted legs gave way, leaning forward with my elbows on my knees, head down. Steve handed me two bottles of water as I dug for the Gatorade packets in the bear can, each move calculated, methodical. While the guys broke camp and packed up, I poured every electrolyte I had down my throat. I donned my down jacket as the shivering started, then initiated the tasks for loading up, one thing at a time. I knew it would pass as the nutrition was processed, and we had a long way to go back to the Portal.

It all started with a simple goal: summit Mt. Whitney after not doing so with my father in 1992. I guess you never know where your feet will take you.

Len and Steve: for once, there aren't words.
