Ranboze birthday was Sept 4th, but she didn't want to take away from TomG's 40th Anniversary Hike Celebration ( 9/6/08 ). So trying to get her out for a "Surprise Birthday Celebration" took a lot of planning and e-mails. (big thanks to Sooz for getting it out) It was a fun hike, dinner, carcamp and birthday celebration. Happy Belated Birthday, Robin!

The Fin

The Fin from Old Langley Trail

First day at altitude is always hard for me. We started at the Old Langley Trail, past Muir Lake and up the sandy slope to the bouldery summit of the Fin. It was cold most of the day, and windy at the summit. The register was missing, so we left a small bottle with our map for signing in. A beautiful day for a hike with great friends!

No register, just a pencil at the summit cairn, and empty can in one of the cracks. Tom Gossett worked hard to get it but it was down too deep

Great pix Cori. Muah was a nice, although long, stroll. You're right... that lake going to the Fin does look like a piglet!

Catching up!

I didn't have plans for Sunday. Tomcat said they were doing Olancha, so I was just going to Olancha Pass since I already had 25 miles and 7,500' of gain/loss for the weekend. I know its not much for some people, but it was a lot for me. When we met at the trailhead, the plan changed to Round Mountain which was fine with me. I was able to summit, making it a 3 summit weekend! Great weather for hiking this area!
