Solo hike up to Trail Peak, trying to get acclimatized after almost a month in low elevation (Australia/New Zealand). Slept in, late start, easy hike at high elevation, 3 hrs at summit including a 55 min nap. Relaxing day!

Beautiful day!

Gossett 40th Anniversary of first hike and rescue from Towne Peak/Albatross hike

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/59 ... 4272_pyNaW

Tom Gossett was stranded on Towne Peak 40 years ago (age 13) with his dad and had to be rescued. It was his first hike and they went to the SA-16 Albatross, wearing t-shirts, shorts and tennis shoes. Dad had the lunches, and they had one canteen of water that Tom had for 4 people after Dave and Greg dropped and broke their glass jugs of water, and they did that before they got to the first ridge. Dad got dehydrated and really sick after the Albatross. Dave and Greg went down for help and got the Death Valley Rangers to rescue them. In 2004 I saw his note in the register, and photographed it with the caption "short story, hope it was a good ending". A year later his brother Wild Bill, replied back that everything turned out ok. So now, 40 years later, a group of us joined him on the 40th Anniversary of his first hike and the rescue. He always signs his e-mails "don't stop climbing"!

Sooz,

No problem! No reason for all of us to start a thread on the same subject. I'm just glad you FINALLY got some pix up! That bug looks like it has pigtails and a helmet like someone we know! Great pics , fun weekend and glad to finally meet Robin and Erin! :D

ok - two separate threads for the same climb - gets confusing where to post.
Was really a hot day - I almost ran out of water carrying over 6 liters. I can only imagine what it would it would be like carrying one canteen among 4 people on a hike like this. I remember sitting on the peak as I waited for you 4 to return and I was cussing as I saw you sneaking the last of the shade - actually I was mad at myself for not taking advantage of the same spot. A great hike with fanatsic friends celebrating a monumental event.

Great shot of us at the rock! TomG and his dad sat under that rock 40 years ago trying to get shade. I love the fact that he's still out there after going thru that.

Sooz, I looked at your pix again, and was laughing at Joe driving by a second time. It was like me driving the 'round-abouts' in Australia!

Thanks for the pix!!!

Petroglyphs, high temps and a short walk up Aguere VMBM

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/59 ... 9576_PdnsN

Everyone went home, so Tom Gossett showed me a cool petroglyph site. It was really hot, so we went for an easy hike to Aguere VABM. After hanging out and enjoying the views for an hour or so, we went back to a really flat FJ tire. So glad TomG was there to change the tire. I can barely lift my camera up with a sprained/strained rotator cuff. He put my "slow leak" spare on, filled it with air and used Fix-A-Flat, and followed me 55 miles to the nearest gas station. After putting more air in the tire, spent an hour talking to him and Robin (MrsG), and Erin showed me a photo of the long-haired TomG as a teen. It was fun celebrating a great event, and meeting the family. Next time, we need the brothers there, even if its just dinner or drinks at PSR!
