Southern Sierra Strolls: East Lamont and Sawtooth

What do you get when you put 12 people, a flowering trail, high winds, and a BBQ together? A great weekend! After meeting Mike in Inyokern, along w/ Tomcat for dinner, we drove into Chimney Rock CG (south of Kennedy Meadows) to set up camp. Saturday dawned cold, clear, and windy, and the initial intent was Spanish Needle. Unfortunately, the remaining snow on the northern faces of that peak were above the gear that we had (shorts, trail runners). So Tom decided we would go to Plan B and head for East Lamont peak. It was trail all the way, with some mild snow traverses on the north-facing slopes, and a lovely scramble up to the summit.

After a raucous BBQ Saturday night, the remaining six of the group that camped headed up to Sawtooth Peak. It was another sunny but cold day, and we just kind of strolled along. Tom I think has better beta on mileage and elevation gain, but it was just a great way to work off, well, a fun party... The air quality was crap from all the wind, so I spent a lot of time looking down (especially since I had found an arrowhead the day before!). So here's just a few shots from along the way:

Thanks to Tomcat for putting this all together, and great job to everyone out there! What a great weekend!
On a side note, I'd like to congratulate my little sister on making me an auntie! Milo Conrad was born on April 16th, 8 lbs/9 oz, 20.25 inches. I'm taking his first football up to him soon!
