Pinyon Peak in the Southern Sierra

I met Rachel early Friday and headed for Pinyon Peak. We were told that we were on private property, so we drove a half mile down the road and started our hike. A lot of bushwhacking, hot but but glad we had long pants on. It was a beautiful day for a hike.

County Line Hill (11,229') and Blanco Mtn (11,285') in the White Mountains

Tom Gossett, Trailtrekker, Mtnflyer, Hard Charger (aka usmcjim) and Snow Nymph met at Grand View CG in the White Mountains. We drove to Crooked Creek Road, and dayclimbed County Line Hill (11,229') and Blanco Mountain (11,285'). On the way back we ran into Campito the horse. I saw Campito in the area about 2 years ago.

Campito Mountain (11,543'), Patriarch Bristlecone Pine Forest, Silver Canyon Road and a herd of Bighorn sheep

Trailtrekker, Mtflyer and Snow Nymph dayclimbed Campito Mountain (11,584'). After, we checked out the Patriarch Bristlecone Pines, then drove down Silver Canyon Road to Bishop. On one of the switchbacks, a large herd of bighorn sheep blocked the road. What a treat!

Fun trip,it was nice to meet Mtflyer and Sooz.I was amazed how easy
you and Sooz made going up that last steep part of Blanco look
like a walk in the park.We will have to go back soon to look for that bag of gold hidden in the rocks! I should have stayed for sunday.

Snowy, I had no idea that the FJ was an amphibious vehicle! Do you have paddles on board, just in case?

Nice pics of the bristlecone pines. I had no idea they got so big! Is that a 4WD road to get to the big one, or is there a trail from a regular road?

Ah, Silver Canyon Road. Back when I was a student we decided foolishly to take an old Ford automatic-shift van up Silver Canyon to go do some work on the Bristlecones. The old thing just wouldn't make the grade, and we ended up backing ridiculously far to where we could turn around and go down. Luckily the driver had a very cool head and steady hand. Those Bristlecones are fantastic!
