Palisade Traverse- Thunderbolt to Sill

Post by themtsarecalling »

I've dreamed about doing this traverse for about 10 years, finally made it happen. Base camped out of Dusy Basin and descended via the Glacier Creek drainage which was a nightmare in the dark. Made for a full 24 hour day, 11 for the traverse and 10 getting from Sill back to camp in the dark!

Siiggghhhhh....

Seems like everyone is ticking this route this season except me :|. Congrats, doing this solo is no joke, even with the alpine shenanigans!

Don’t worry these aren’t going anywhere! And didn’t see a soul all day so perhaps not as many people ticking it as you think :-)

Nice report and some beautiful climbing and peaks. Of course doing this in one go is physically amazing. As you probably know even the casual and easy peak climb of Sill from Dusy has long had the reputation of taking hikers past sundown, but a Thunderbolt-Sill traverse? Whew. Nifty climbing/rope tricks, too, to increase safety doing this solo.

Thanks! Hoping others will adapt the same technique when climbing Starlight, definitely made things considerably safer.
