McGee Creek, Mt Emerson and Mt Gould

Post by Snow Nymph »

Friday: Hiked as far as the last meadow before Big McGee Lake to look for my lost Teva (from July 4th). I'm guessing I lost it near camp on the west side of the lake.

Saturday: Dayclimbed Mt Emerson with Tomcat and Sierragator. We met Asher and Dan that morning and spent some time hanging out at the summit and after descending at Loch Leven. Fun climb!

Sunday: Dayclimbed Mt Gould.

I'm so far behind on these photos, I'm posting out of order. More later

Dayclimbed Mt Gould solo. I was tired and almost turned back a few times.

North Lake to Mt Emerson

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/31 ... #173842022

Dayclimbed Mt Emerson with Tomcat and Sierragator. We met Dan and Asher in the parking lot, and ended up hiking / taking breaks with them. Great views from the summit, great company and fun climbing!

Nice photos and nice climb--I was particularly interested in your Emerson photos. I'm still kicking myself for messing up the route and giving myself such a scare in 1987. I climbed from Piute L. and for some reason attempted to turn a gendarme on the west ridge on the north instead of more sensible south side leading to some very loose class 4 before I turned back a few feet and one very unreliable and committing mantle move from finishing the thing. I then vowed never to go back. I think your post and photos put it back on the target list.

Brookie-
this was attempt number 3 for me - so I was more than thrilled when we all got on summit.

my first two attempts were more of a western approach(first time I went all the way to Piute Pass to see the view) and that was what we had in mind this time. I was glad to run into Dan and Asher at the parking lot. after short conversation realized we were all doing the same peak. when I peeked at their map I saw a different route penned in. we talked for a bit and a modified plan went into affect - take the rib just south of the drainage that leads to the 2nd small lake above Loch Leven. Corri, Jim & I were all on summit in less than 6 hours. after about an hour on summit we were about ready to head down when here come Asher and Dan. it was so fun chatting with them we spent nearly another hour on summit.

we got a few sprinkles back down near Loch Leven and on the way down. some great new wildflowers including Tiger Lilly. working on photos now too and will post later

and just to show you that you are never too old to get out there

Yes, it does sound like you had a good weekend - thanks for sharing. Emerson is one I'd like to do also - and eventually Humphrey's too.

I'll be doing Emerson again! It was a fun climb!

TC, the flower at the end is some kind of buckwheat, maybe Rose & White Buckwheat. Thanks for a fun trip!

I think most of us were on our 2nd attempt. Glad we made it!
