Tom, I just got back -- the trip was fantastic, except for one terrifying interlude. I hiked in (foolishly carrying a 45 pound pack -- man is that trail steep! And I think it was even harder going down than up!) on Friday, and did the MR on Saturday. Your advice was spot on -- the trail starting on the north side of LP Creek is just fine, and the left side of the final 400 is great fun. I think I was the only one in the gully the entire way up and then, ironically, I came upon a roped-team at the beginning of the final 400. Fortunately, I was able to pass them after a few minutes.

I did Russell on Sunday. It was an amazing experience. So amazing, in fact, that I got cocky on the way down and ended up in the wrong chute. Or should I say cliff. Let's just say that had I been a few inches off on one "move," I would have never have been seen or heard from again.

When I get a few pictures up, I'll post a more detailed report.

What were they roped up for?

The only way to have a true adventure! I have found myself in that very position many times. :)

quentinc: I'm looking forward to your pictures. I might wander up toward Russell this coming weekend or the following one if I feel like I have enough energy - that trip will take a lot of energy for me.

Mountaineer, I think they were trying to impersonate a mule team.

Kathy: I'll have my pictures later today or tomorrow. I'm afraid I don't have very many though, because my partner forgot to put the memory card back in the digital camera. So I was stuck with the spare card in the camera case, which holds only 20 pictures. :\

MR and Russell in the same weekend - nicely done. would have loved to have join you but I let myself get talked into going north - more in trip report to follow. cannot wait to see your photos and glad the weekend was fulfilling and rewarding
mountain hiking is addictive:
I can quit anytime I want - I just choose not to want

Next time then!
I found the MR & Russell easier than doing Williamson and Tyndall in the same 3 day trip (I did that 3 weeks ago).
