Kerstin and I joined the Tuesday hiking group on a day hike up to the base of Red Peak and over to Stevens peak on Tuesday 6/19...This was my 2nd time to Stevens and about my 6th time up to the Red Lake peak area..it is one of my favorite hiking areas around the Tahoe area..the hike is nice and open with lots of ridge walking which is what I love, great views in all directions!

This group I have been hiking with for many years...a lot of great people and friendly company. Some hikes there are very few people on them & some there are several like this one..we had a total of 12 people..maybe a little to many for me.. but it was still fun and lots of space to spread out along the way..10 of us made it all the way to Stevens!
On the way out Kerstin and I were looking for the very hard to find Beckwith Violet wildflower..they are an early bloomer in this area, so because of the low snow pack we were not sure if they had already come and gone or we may not see them at all..after some looking we did find them and quite a large patch & they were at peak bloom..that was fun we spent about 15 minutes taking pictures of them.
It was a beautiful day! My pictures here for anyone that would like to see the area

Hi Anita -

thanks you for sharing those pictures. looks like a fantastic day on the mountain. the mountains above 12k are covered with blooming Polemonium here too. hope your local hiking is not ruined too bad with all the fire burning.

Looks like a really fun trip! And what beautiful flowers.... I especially liked the pink flowers (picture #5) the stems were also pink with slate green leaves - really pretty.

Thanks for sharing!

The Deer's Tongue is the best photo I've seen of that flower! http://webworld.freac.fsu.edu/eco/indiv ... tem=Upland
I've only seen all green, but yours has a pretty lavender color in it. I only got thru ~25 photos and had to stop. The ad was flashing and was really annoying. I'll go back later.
